DIRECTORATE OF EXTENSION EDUCATION

The Directorate of Extension Education became functional in this second Agricultural University of the nation, Odisha University of Agriculture & Technology during 1967 with an objective to transfer up-to-date technology on agriculture and allied areas to the farmers’ field. The technology transfer system of the directorate is accomplished through its various units viz. Krishi Vigyan Kendras, Information and Communication Section, University Extension Block Programme, Distance Education Programme, Video Project, Agriculture Technology Information Centre and Odisha Gender Resource Centre.

VISION:

This Directorate has a vision to make Odisha University of Agriculture & Technology accessible to all type of farmers, fulfil their aspirations and establish a strong, sustainable and vibrant agro economy for the state.

MISSION:

The mission of the directorate is to provide latest technical know-hows and entrepreneurial pathways to the millions of farm- families, rural youths through its different wings for better income and sustainable livelihood.

FUNCTIONS:

Directorate of Extension Education is the mouth speak of Odisha University of Agriculture & Technology for transfer of technologies from laboratory to the land. It provides the technological inventory to the State Government on agriculture and allied sectors. Besides, it helps in policy formulation on various issues pertaining to technology transfer, give contingent plans on emergency situations and pest outbreaks to the State Government. The 31 Krishi Vigyan Kendras functioning under its jurisdiction provides similar services at their respective districts, thus helps in strengthening convergence at bottom to top level. It also undertakes few skill oriented trainings and consultancy services at the headquarter.

GOVERNANCE:

Dean, Extension Education is the head of the Directorate of Extension Education. He works under the direct supervision of the Hon’ble Vice- Chancellor of the University. He is supported by Joint Directors and Deputy Directors. The projects viz. Video Project, University Extension Block Programme, Information and Communication Cell, Odisha Gender Resource Centre are headed by Joint Directors. The 31 Krishi Vigyan Kendras are divided into the clusters accordingly to the agro-climatic zone and each headed by a Joint Director / Deputy Director. They monitor the activities of the KVKs and directly report to the Dean, Extension Education.
