The primary function of the College of Agriculture, Bhubaneswar is teaching at the UG,PG and Ph.D. level leading to B.Sc. (Hons.) Agri.,M.Sc.(Ag.) and Ph.D. degrees. The college first functioned with only 32 UG students on roll under B.Sc. (Ag) programme and subsequently the intake capacity went up progressively up to 211 students at present under UG programme, 195 students under Masters’ Programme and 50 students in Ph.D., Programme to meet the technical manpower requirement of the state.
It provides highly qualified technical as well as managerial human resources in the field of Agriculture to the public and private sector through its UG,Masters’ and Ph.D. programmes. All the departments are offering PG programme where as Ph.D. course programme isofferedin 14 Departments. Till the year of 2022-23,the college has produced 8498 graduates, 4638 Postgraduates and 324 Ph.D.s, serving the human kind in general and the farm community in particular in assorted diverse and multifarious capacities.
Nevertheless, it also undertakes research and extension activities in various fields as and when required.It has played a key role in increasing production and productivity of all important agricultural crops, thereby, increasing the income of farmers.Crop improvement and variety development in different crops, development of appropriate crop production and crop protection practices/technologies, appropriate land and water management, efficient use of agricultural inputs and farm implements, economics of crop production,dissemination of crop production technology to farmers and issue of weather based timely farm advisory and contingent measures are the important areas in which Agriculture profession has been playing major role.
It is worthy to mention that the alumni of this college can be traced at any nook and corner of the country as officers in agriculture and allied sector institutions, Agro-based national and multinational companies, Nationalized banks, Indian Civil Services and Odisha Civil Services. Besides, exhibiting outstanding excellence in circular programmers, this college has produced exponents in the field of Games, Sports, Literature and culture
