Regional Research and Technology Transfer Sub-Station (RRTTSS), Jeypore, previously known as Rice Research Station was established during 1936 by the Jeypore Maharaja. It was functioning as a centre for evaluation and development of rice varieties for the region under Rice Specialist, Govt. of Odisha and subsequently under the Economic Botanist-I, Govt. of Odisha from 1947 to 1963. During 1963, this organisation was transferred to the control of Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT).

Koraput is the tribal dominated district in the state, covering about 1.24 lakh ha rice area. The undivided Koraput (Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangapur and Rayagada) district comprises of three agro-climatic zones i.e. Eastern Ghat High Land Zone, South Eastern Ghat Zone and North Eastern Ghat Zone. The most popular varieties cultivated in undivided Koraput districts are MTU-1001, MTU-1010, Lalat, Khandagiri, Pooja, Swarna, Pratikshya, Manaswini, Mandakini etc. The major insect pests in the undivided Koraput districts are Stem Borer, BPH, WBPH, Rice Case Worm etc. and major diseases are BLB, Blast, Rice Sheath Blight etc.

In order to bring improvement and conservation of local land races, All India Coordinated Rice Improvement Projects (AICRP on Rice),Jeypore (OUAT) was established on April, 1975 in IVth plan period in the Koraput district of Odisha.

Presently the centre is having collaboration with IIRR, Hyderabad; NRRI, Cuttack; IRRI, Phillipines; IFPRI, Hyderabad for improvement of rice.

The centre is also actively involved in quality seed production of rice. The centre is involved in conducting demonstration in rice and imparting training to farmers and extension functionaries of Agriculture Department, Govt. of Odisha.
